TimePeace is a calm, private place to keep your life, built on one governing promise: you are in control of your own data, and whichever way you choose to use it — letting TimePeace use it to help you, or keeping it sealed under encryption that only you hold — we respect that choice. You can use it for free today. Be decent with it, keep your account details safe, and remember that what you write stays yours — we only hold it so the app can work for you. It's provided as-is, we do our honest best to keep it running, and there are limits on what we can be responsible for. We may add paid plans in future, but we'll tell you before anything costs you money and we'll never delete the history you've already created. These Terms can change; we'll flag material changes, and every version is archived. South African law governs them, and nothing here takes away the rights the law already gives you as a consumer.
TimePeace ("TimePeace", "we", "us", "our") is a personal life-tracking web application operated by Nathan Duvel, based in Cape Town, South Africa. You can reach a real person — not a form — at support@timepeaceapp.com.
In short: using TimePeace means you accept these Terms.
These Terms are a binding agreement between you and TimePeace. By creating an account or using the app, you confirm that you have read and agree to them and to the Privacy Policy, which forms part of this agreement. If you do not agree, please don't use TimePeace. We may ask you to re-accept an updated version (see section 17).
In short: you need to be 13 or older.
You must be at least 13 years old to use TimePeace, matching our Privacy Policy. When you create an account you confirm you are at least 13 — a simple self-declaration; we don't ask for or store your date of birth. We don't knowingly create accounts for children under 13, and if we learn we have, we delete the account. In a few countries the age at which you can agree to a service like this on your own is higher than 13 (up to 16); if you are below that age where you live, please use TimePeace with a parent or guardian involved. If you use TimePeace for or on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you're authorised to accept these Terms for it.
In short: keep your login safe; you're responsible for what happens under your account.
You're responsible for your account and for keeping your sign-in details secure. Give us accurate information, don't share your credentials, and tell us promptly at support@timepeaceapp.com if you think your account has been accessed without your permission. We're not responsible for losses arising from someone using your account because your credentials weren't kept secure (to the extent the law allows).
Encryption keys. If you turn on encryption for your private entries, the passphrase you choose and the one-time recovery key we show you are the only ways to open that content — by design we never receive them and cannot reset, recover or override them. Keep them safe and private. If you lose both your passphrase and your recovery key, your encrypted entries cannot be recovered by anyone, including us (your account itself remains recoverable — only the encrypted content is at stake). This is the trade-off that makes the encryption genuinely yours.
Key-backup service (optional). If you have turned on encryption, you may separately choose to switch on key backup — an optional convenience where we keep a specially protected backup of your encryption key so you can recover your private entries if you ever lose both your passphrase and your recovery key. We cannot restore a backed-up key on our own or in silence: a restore always requires you to complete an identity check and a clear, one-time action approving the release, and we notify your account of every attempt, whether or not it was you. Switching key backup on means you are choosing to trade a little of the zero-knowledge guarantee described above for this recoverability; leaving it off keeps you fully zero-knowledge, which remains the default. Consent to key backup is entirely separate from every other consent or permission in TimePeace (including any correlation-research or similar programme we may offer in future) — agreeing to one never implies or grants the other, and each can be withdrawn independently. The key-backup service is provided "as is," as a convenience, without warranty that a restore will always succeed or that the backup is immune from loss or compromise; to the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss, corruption, or compromise of a backed-up key or the data it protects, including an inability to restore it. This does not reduce our other obligations under these Terms or the Privacy Policy to protect the data we hold, notify you of restore attempts, or honour deletion of the backup when you switch it off or delete your account. Your passphrase and recovery key remain your primary way in; the backup is a secondary convenience you choose.
Connected apps, your AI, and developers. When you connect another app — or your own AI assistant — to TimePeace, you are directing us to accept what it does on your behalf, on the same footing as choosing to connect a calendar. You choose which apps you connect and the permissions and instructions you give them, and you are responsible for that choice. A connection is add-only unless you separately allow reading. With the Connected apps permission an app may add entries that you can see and remove; it acts only within the permission you granted, only for your own account, and can only ever remove what it itself added — never anything you wrote. Reading is a separate permission. Only if you separately turn on reading for an assistant you have connected may it read and search your entries — and then only within the permissions on its grant (your health, people and money permissions still apply), never your whole diary at once, with every read recorded; entries you have encrypted cannot be read on our servers at all. A developer whose app or assistant connects to TimePeace agrees to: request only the permissions their app needs, and request reading explicitly rather than bundled with adding; honour a disconnect or a withdrawal of reading immediately, so further calls stop working; never present their app as TimePeace or imply we endorse it; never attempt to read where only adding was granted; and never retain or repurpose content an assistant reads beyond answering your own request. We may suspend or remove any integration that abuses the connection or a user's trust.
Location. If you turn on the optional Location feature, you name your own places (home, work, the gym, and the like) with a spot and a small radius, and TimePeace reads your device's location only while the feature is on to work out which of those places you're at. It is off by default, asked only when you switch the feature on, and never on our own initiative. TimePeace only ever offers to log the moment you arrive at or leave a place you named — it never logs anything without your one-tap confirmation. Your live position is not stored or synced, and turning the feature off removes the places you saved.
In short: don't break the law with it, don't attack or abuse the service, don't misuse it for other people's data.
You agree not to:
Linking with other members. Connections lets two members establish a mutual, identified link by one showing a single-use code and the other confirming it — it works only when both of you opt in, and linking by itself shares no diary, plans, money or other content, only the display name each of you chooses to show the other. Once you are linked, either of you may also leave the other a short written note, or share a list (a shopping list, a packing list or a checklist) with an optional “do by” date. You may also share a saved artefact you keep — a recipe, a reusable packing template, or a plan (a week of meals, or a trip), propose a hangout the other confirms or declines, or choose to share your own contact details (name, surname, birthday, phone and socials) so they appear on the card the linked member keeps about you. The person who receives any of these always chooses what happens to it — a note can be added to their diary, kept aside or dismissed; a list, recipe, template or plan can be added to their own things or dismissed; a hangout is confirmed or declined and only a confirm puts a matching gathering in both diaries; nothing is ever added automatically, and a note, list, artefact or hangout is held on our server only until the recipient acts on it and is then deleted. Contact details you choose to share are held only while you keep sharing them and are removed when you stop or unlink. You are responsible for who you choose to link with, for the display name you show, and for the notes and lists you send (and for any recipe, template, plan, hangout or details you choose to share) — keep them courteous, lawful and yours to share, and we may remove anything that breaks these rules. Either of you can unlink at any time, which ends the connection for both of you. Any further feature we may later build on top of a link will always require its own separate, deliberate action by you.
If you seriously or repeatedly break these rules, we may suspend or close your account (see section 14).
In short: you own what you write. You give us only the narrow permission we need to store it and show it back to you.
Everything you put into TimePeace — your diary, notes, plans, lists, and the rest — is yours. We don't claim ownership of it.
To run the service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, transmit, and display your content back to you (and across your own devices when you turn on sync), strictly so that the features you use can work. This licence exists only to operate TimePeace for you, ends when you delete the content or your account (subject to the retention described in the Privacy Policy), and does not allow us to sell your content, use it for advertising, or share it except as the Privacy Policy describes. You confirm you have the right to store the content you add.
In short: how we handle data is set out in the Privacy Policy, and we mean it.
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have, and is part of these Terms. Both documents are built on the same governing promise as section 1: you control your data, and we honour whatever you choose — using it to help you, or keeping it sealed so even we can't read it. In short: TimePeace keeps your data only so the features you choose can work; we don't sell it, share it for advertising, or run ads or trackers; and you can read, download or delete it at any time. We act as the data controller and Information Officer under POPIA.
Correlation-research programme (optional). You may separately choose to join an optional correlation programme. If you switch it on, TimePeace builds a de-identified map of what tends to go with what in your life — a "correlation footprint" — on your own device (your raw entries do not leave it to build the map), gives you a personalised report of your own patterns, and keeps only the anonymous, de-identified footprint, which pools into an aggregate model we use to improve TimePeace and for research. What you share this way is used only to improve TimePeace and for research — it is not used to advertise to you; we do not sell or advertise individual-level data outside the company; and only general, aggregate insights are ever published — nothing that identifies you leaves as an individual record. Consent to the correlation programme is entirely separate from every other consent or permission in TimePeace (including key backup) — agreeing to one never implies or grants the other, and each can be withdrawn independently. Withdrawal has an honest limit we state plainly up front: turning the programme off stops any further contribution and deletes your own footprint and report, but a past contribution that has already been de-identified and pooled into the aggregate cannot be individually retracted, because by design nothing ties it back to you. The programme is off by default and rests on your consent, asked as its own clearly-marked step. This does not change what these Terms say about ads, selling data, content ownership, pricing, or any other right.
Legal and law-enforcement requests. We may be required by valid legal process to disclose data we hold — for example under a South African court order, subpoena or lawful directive (a foreign authority can reach us only through a recognised legal channel, such as a mutual legal assistance request). Our default answer to any request for your data is no; only a genuine legal obligation moves us off that, and even then we act narrowly. We verify that a demand is valid, authentic and specific and have it reviewed before we produce anything; we disclose only the data the order actually covers; we tell the affected person wherever the law allows (staying silent only where an order lawfully prohibits notice); and we log every request, including those we refuse. Where you have turned on encryption and hold your own key, your private entries are stored scrambled and we cannot read or produce their contents — no order can compel what we do not hold the means to produce. How we handle these requests is set out in full in the Privacy Policy.
In short: it's free to use today. We may add optional paid plans later and may set or change prices — but we'll tell you before anything costs you, and we'll never hold the history you've already created hostage.
TimePeace is currently free to use. We are building it as a sustainable product, and we expressly reserve the right, at any time and at our discretion, to:
(a) introduce paid subscriptions, plans, premium features or usage limits; (b) set, change or restructure prices, billing cycles, currencies and what is included in the free and any paid tiers; and (c) move features or capabilities between the free and paid tiers.
Using TimePeace for free today does not entitle you to that tier, that price, or any particular feature remaining free in future. We will, however:
Any paid subscription will be governed by the specific plan terms, prices and cancellation/ refund rules shown to you at checkout. Nothing in this section limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002.
In short: TimePeace will keep evolving; features can be added, changed or retired.
TimePeace is actively developed. We may add, change, or remove features, and we may set reasonable technical limits, to keep the product healthy and improving. We'll avoid removing something you depend on without good reason, and where a change is significant we'll aim to give notice. Your ability to export your data is a standing commitment, so you're never locked in.
We may also make different features available to different accounts as part of how we test, develop and manage the service. Where this applies, the app's Features section will indicate that some features may not be available to all accounts at this time. This practice does not affect the data you have already logged, your right to export it, or any other rights described in these Terms or the Privacy Policy.
In short: we work hard to keep TimePeace running and your data safe, but we can't promise perfection — and you should keep your own copy of anything critical.
We provide TimePeace with reasonable skill and care, but to the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose beyond what the law requires. TimePeace is a personal organiser, not professional advice — medical, legal, financial or otherwise — and you shouldn't rely on it as such. While we back up data, you are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything important (use Settings → Privacy → Download my data). This section does not exclude any warranty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Consumer Protection Act.
In short: there are sensible limits on what we can be liable for — but we don't try to dodge liability the law won't let us.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, TimePeace and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) ZAR 1,000.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything that may not be excluded under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. If you are a consumer under that Act, your statutory rights stand in full regardless of anything here.
In short: if your misuse of TimePeace causes us a real, legal loss, you cover it — within what the law considers fair.
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to cover reasonable losses, claims and costs we actually incur because you broke these Terms or used TimePeace unlawfully or in breach of someone else's rights. This won't apply to the extent the loss was our fault, and it is subject to the consumer protections above.
In short: you can leave any time; we'll only suspend or close an account for good reason, and with notice where we reasonably can.
You may stop using TimePeace and delete your account at any time (Settings → Privacy). We may suspend or close an account if you materially or repeatedly breach these Terms, if we're required to by law, or if keeping it running would create a real security or legal risk — and we'll give you notice and a chance to put things right where it's reasonable and lawful to do so. We may also auto-delete the data in an account that has been dormant (not signed into) for 12 consecutive months and has never held a paid subscription (or whose last paid period ended more than 12 months ago) — as a data-minimisation measure under POPIA and GDPR. We will send you reminder emails well before this happens; simply signing in once resets the clock. When an account closes, data is handled as set out in the Privacy Policy (cleared data waits 30 days in Trash; deleting your account removes synced data and backups, with sign-in records removed within 30 days). You can export your data before you go.
In short: the TimePeace app, name and brand are ours; your content stays yours.
The TimePeace software, design, brand, name and logo (the clock-and-peace mark) are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by law. These Terms don't give you any right to our brand or software beyond using the app as intended. This does not affect your ownership of your own content (section 7).
In short: a few trusted providers help run TimePeace; their own terms may also apply.
TimePeace relies on third-party providers (for example Supabase for storage and sign-in, and Cloudflare for serving the app — the full list is in the Privacy Policy). If you choose to connect an optional third-party service (such as signing in with Google), that service's own terms and privacy policy also apply to your use of it. We're not responsible for third-party services we don't control.
In short: we'll keep these Terms current and tell you about material changes; every version is archived.
We may update these Terms as TimePeace grows or the law changes. Each version carries a version number and effective date, and every previous version is archived and available on request. For material changes (for example, introducing paid plans or changing your rights or our liability), we'll give you reasonable notice in the app and/or by email before they take effect, and where the law requires it we'll ask you to accept the new version. Continuing to use TimePeace after an update takes effect means you accept the updated Terms; if you don't, you can stop using the service and delete your account.
In short: South African law applies; let's try to sort out any problem directly first.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the courts of South Africa (Western Cape) have jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer right to bring a matter in your local courts or to approach the National Consumer Commission or the Information Regulator. Before any formal step, please contact us at support@timepeaceapp.com so we can try to resolve things quickly and fairly.
